RAPID WEIGHT LOSS MAY CAUSE SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS. RAPID WEIGHT LOSS IS WEIGHT LOSS OF MORE THAN 1½ TO 2 POUNDS PER WEEK OR WEIGHT LOSS OF MORE THAN 1 PERCENT OF BODY WEIGHT PER WEEK AFTER THE SECOND WEEK OF PARTICIPATION IN A WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM.

Before beginning any weight management program, you should be aware of the following:
- Consult your personal physician before starting any weight loss program. This is especially important if you have any medical conditions or are taking medication.
- Only permanent lifestyle changes — such as making healthful food choices and increasing physical activity — promote long-term weight loss.
- Qualifications of the provider staff are available upon request.
Your Consumer Rights
As a consumer of weight management services, you have the right to:
- Ask about the potential health risks of the program and any products that are part of the program
- Know the nutritional content and health risks of any food or supplement products provided as part of the program
- Receive an itemized statement of the cost of the program, including any supplements, food products, or other required purchases
- Know the expected duration of the program
- Know the credentials and qualifications of the program staff, including any dietitian or nutritionist involved in the program
